WhatsApp for Linux

Here’s a simple WhatsApp Desktop Client for Linux. Nothing fancy. Consumes very low resources. Checks for network connectivity. And overall, just works. Hope you like it. Here’s a screen shot:

WhatsApp for Linux

Installation Instructions

You’ll get a tar.xz archive when you’ll download the app. Make sure you download the correct architecture for your Linux distribution! Once you’ve got the package, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Create a directory called ‘WhatsApp’ in the /opt directory with the command below:

mkdir -p /opt/WhatsApp

Step 2: Extract the archive in the directory we created:

tar -xJvf WhatsApp-amd64.tar.xz -C /opt/WhatsApp/

Step 3 (not required for Rebellin): I’ve bundled a launcher with WhatsApp. You may copy that to /usr/share/applications. Like so:

cd /opt/WhatsApp

cp WhatsApp.desktop /usr/share/applications

update-menus

Now reboot your computer. You will find WhatsApp in the Internet section of the menu.
